Ten pieces of oiled alder: towers, gates and walls that stand on their own and line up into a castle in a minute. Small gems set into the wood catch the light, so the castle sparkles by the window.

It is the right size for a shelf or a small table, and it grows into a whole kingdom when the Large Fairytale Castle joins it.

From age three. A first castle for little builders, and a gatehouse or tower for older children's kingdoms.

Why it lasts.

A castle sized for small hands and small spaces, with the same solid alder and inset gems as its bigger sibling.

Solid alder

Heavy, oiled pieces with the grain left visible. Each stands on its own, so a castle holds its shape while a story plays out.

Gems in the wood

Acrylic gems are set into the towers and gates and glow near a window or on a light table.

Grows with the set

Combine it with the Large Fairytale Castle for a full kingdom, or use it alone as a starter castle.

Who it's for

For the parent
A real wooden castle your child builds and rebuilds, sized to fit a shelf.

Ways to play.

  • Build a small castle, then rebuild it a new way
  • Set it by a window to watch the gems glow
  • Add felt or wooden figures for knights, royals and gnomes
  • Combine with the Large Fairytale Castle for a kingdom

Bauspiel Bauspiel is Uwe Deckelmann and his daughter Hanna. 'Bauspiel' means 'building game' in German, and the line grows out of Friedrich Fröbel's kindergarten tradition of simple forms that ask nothing and allow everything. The wood is native European lime, alder and beech, with maple and cherry from sustainable cultivation, colored and oiled so the grain stays visible and the soul of the wood remains perceptible. The acrylic and gems come from Taiwan or China. Everything is quality-checked and shipped from Augsburg, Germany.
